Southampton is a town partly located on Long Island’s South Fork in Suffolk County, New York. This diverse community has an urban core with first-class amenities and a sandy shoreline famed for the summer getaways of the Hamptons. In Southampton, you will find elegant estates, stunning beaches, exceptional shopping and dining, and a variety of year-round events.
 
Downtown Southampton is one of the Hamptons’ largest and most diverse commercial districts with a fantastic range of restaurants and stores. 75 Main is a chic spot for creative takes on classic Italian dishes from James Beard Award-winning chef Mark Militello. The Golden Pear is an upscale café with delicious breakfast and lunch fare. Citarella Gourmet Market is the place to pick up high-end take-home foodstuffs or enjoy a coffee or a meal. Take-home items include prime-aged meat and fresh seafood, while Citarella’s meals include brick oven pizzas and handmade sushi. The downtown area is a hub for arts and culture. Southampton Arts Center provides studio space for artists and hosts frequent special exhibitions and events. Southampton Cultural Center has an art gallery and performance space for classical music recitals and plays. Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art hosts exhibits and installations that showcase the work of talented artists at the forefront of contemporary art. Southampton Historical Museum is an open-air history museum with 12 buildings that detail the town’s early development. Highlights include an old schoolhouse, shops, and a mansion built-in 1834.
 
Oceanfront Dune Road to Southampton’s south is lined with some of Hampton’s most popular beaches. Beaches closest to homes in Southampton include the picturesque white sands of Cooper’s Beach, which is consistently ranked among the top ten beaches in the United States. Further along the shoreline, you’ll find Shinnecock East County Park, a rugged and undeveloped barrier beach with dramatic scenery at the point where the Shinnecock Inlet meets the Atlantic Ocean.
 
Southampton operates its own Southampton Union Free School District.
